Good afternoon!

We ended our day with Mrs. Morden modeling a Thinking Routine titled "I used to think, But now I know". After visiting the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area on Tuesday evening for a teacher inservice, Mrs. Morden learned that she was identifying the native grass 'northern fescue' incorrectly. "I used to think that brome was northern fescue, But now I know that brome is an invasive grass that makes northern fescue hard to find." This opened a conversation about having a flexible mindset, and being able to change our ideas after learning new information and becoming more informed. This also opened about a conversation about native and invasive species. We watched a helpful video created by the British Columbian government that highlights some of the invasive species in BC and what we can do to help. To further out learning, students are asked to look into native and invasive species this evening, particularly the oh' so common pet goldfish.

This week in class students have been working to create a blind book tasting event for other students within our school. Students have chosen a book from our library, created clues for it, wrapped it in brown paper, written clues on the exterior of the brown paper wrapping and tied it with twine. Today we placed the books in the display cabinet, listing a series of steps for the school that will help guide them in the process.

Please return Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area field trip forms by Monday. Families that are wishing to pay on-line for this field trip may need to wait a few days to make their payment due to some upgrades to our on-line payment system. For any families who did order FUN LUNCH on Thursday, October 10th you will need to cancel these prior to this Saturday, alternatively students can bring the fun lunch home with them at the end of the day.

Have a great night,

Mrs. Morden
