Happy Summer Google Meet

Hello Room 5 families!

I have sent an invite for all students to join me in a one-on-one Google Meet to say farewell and Happy Summer next Thursday or Friday. Please help your child find the invite in Google Classroom and respond.

Although our farewells will look different this school year, I hope to have an opportunity to chat with each student before the end of next week!

Sending everyone well wishes as we go into our last week of school before summer holidays.

Sports’ Day Bingo

Let’s have a virtual Sports’ Day! Sports’ Day Bingo will run from June 15 – 21. Please see Google Classroom and the Virtual Sports Day Assignment for the activities and instructions on how to complete each activity.

Each line completed is worth 1 point and a blackout card earns you 5 points! Once you have completed your card, submit your points to your teacher. Your teacher will notify you about how they would like you to share your points. You can watch the points accumulate with this link: http://keepthescore.co/board/aoqotflqtkr/. Points need to be submitted by June 21 as total points will be then be added together on Monday, June 22nd. If the school can earn a total of 350 points, then the students will earn a surprise video that will be posted to our LBS YouTube Channel!
If you do not have the proper equipment at home, please feel free to modify where needed!

May 11 Updates

Hello Room 5 Families,

It is hard to believe that we are beginning Week Six of Ongoing Learning through Google Classroom. Thank you to parents and students for being flexible, open minded and for demonstrating perseverance as we navigate this new learning path together. Please note that Friday, May 14th is a Non Instructional Day and Monday, May 18th is Victoria Day.

The Yearbook Committee is asking for your help. They are looking for "At Home" learning photo submissions for the 2019/2020 Yearbook.

Please email me with any photo submissions you have by May 25, 2020.

I will continue to hold Google Meets for students to connect with myself as well as one another. As I understand that all students benefit in different ways, I have been scheduling a mixture of both small group as well as whole class Google Meets. The invitation for a Google Meet shows up in Google Classroom at the top, please help your child look for these invitations and RSVP. This upcoming Wednesday, May 13th we will have a whole class Google Meet.

Please know that I am here to support you and your child understand, navigate and complete assignments. Once an assignment is turned in, I try my best to provide timely feedback connected to the assignment success criteria. Sometimes I may return the assignment for students to make changes and improvements. Please contact me through email if you and your child require any type of support, whether that be through email, a one-on-one Google Meet, or phone call.

Thank you and I hope everyone in your household is doing well,

Mrs. Morden

Updates

I have sent an updated IXL username and password to each student's student email address. IXL is a great learning website to practice math. We had to sign up for another 30 day free trial, therefore the student usernames have changed.

Thank you to the parents who have already submitted feedback through the Google Form. So far, the majority of you are beginning to feel confident with navigating Google Classroom while students are still unsure. Workload and Communication are "just right".

Did you know.... Google Classroom, Google Meet and Google Docs can be downloaded as APPS on your tablet device. This makes signing in and accessing assignments much quicker and more student friendly!

Thank you for your grace and support as we continue to learn and navigate through Ongoing Learning.

Please email me with any individual questions or concerns.

Overview of April 15th Google Meet

During Room 5's April 15th Google Meet we spoke about…

  • Google Meet Etiquette- this is just like a lesson in the classroom, it is expected that you are demonstrating respect for the speaker (teacher & peers) at all times. The side chat is for typing in a question mark to notify Mrs. Morden that you have a question & would like to speak- just like raising your hand in a lesson.

  • How to navigate Google Classroom-
    • Overview for the Week Material (list of jobs just like in our classroom, responsible work choices, weekly work journal)
    • Assignments (how to input work directly into the assignments (in a textbox), how to input photos of work, how to input additional documents when submitting an assignment)
    • Flipgrid & Question poll will be other tools Mrs Morden uses for student interaction and student voice

  • Submitting Work- solely on Google Classroom
  • Quality of Work- In your assignments, you will see Success Criteria and Self Assessments. Mrs. Morden will respond to your assignment with feedback in the comment section and may 'RETURN' the work to you to make changes, you can then resubmit.
  • Other topics that came up:
    • Raz-Kids- If you cannot log in or see that you are on the wrong reading level, please contact Mrs. Morden for help
    • Prodigy- This is another online gaming website that can be used to practice math skills. Mrs. Morden will not be creating a class account at this time.
    1. How to create a division symbol  ÷ using your keyboard: hold down the keys OPTION and  /     at the same time

It was so great to see everyone's smiling faces! I truly have missed each and every one of you, and can't wait until we can be together again!

Let me know if you have any individual questions.

On Friday, I will be sending parents a GOOGLE FORM to survey how you as a family are feeling after two weeks of Google Classroom instruction. I would appreciate the feedback as I understand, as a parent myself, the realities of this shift in routine.

All the best,
Mrs. Morden
